Interesting Facts About A Kitchen

The truth is, there are a lot of interesting facts and tidbits about that particular area of the house that may need some attention.

This is an aspect of modern day living that has its roots going back to the origins of stoves and cooking ranges. Another innovation that is linked to it is the creation and continued development of water infrastructures that delivers water to houses. Food was often cooked over an open fire right right up to the eighteenth century.

With the advent of advancing technology, at least those that concerned indoor heating, the architecture of kitchens began to adapt and evolve as needed. In a time before modern pipes were in use by everyone, the most common way to get water was to get it from external sources. These include but are not exclusive to wells, pumps and even springs.

In the days of Ancient Greece, their houses were common atrium types, with open courtyards. They also had patios that served as kitchens. The rich had separate rooms for the purpose of cooking and storing the food. It was not unusual for these rooms to be right next to bathrooms so the kitchen fire can warm them both.

Within the common folks of the Roman Empire, they had no such place in their homes. In fact, a lot of their cooking were done in public places. There were a few small and mobile bronze stoves, however. The wealthy had relatively well equipped kitchens as opposed to the common people.

During the middle ages, there were a lot of longhouses of European origin where the highest point they had on those buildings had open fires. The cooking place was between the entrance and the fire itself. The rich made more than one, apparently, and the nobles even had homesteads with sunken floor buildings. It was separate from the main building and this was to prevent indoor smoke.

The famous Leonardo da Vinci has also contributed greatly by inventing an automated system that can rotate the spit for the purpose of spit roasting. This system had a propeller within the chimney, allowing the spit to turn on its own. It was extensively used in richer homes. By the arrival of the late Middle Ages, there were a lot of European kitchens that lost its home heating function and were increasingly moved away to separate rooms.

Eventually, industrialization came into play, which proved to be very interesting. Several innovations were developed during this highly important time period. One example were iron stoves, and another would be the granting of a U. S. Patent to the gas stove back in 1825.

Other subsequent time periods and events like World War II did their part in shaping how a modern kitchen Huntsville AL turned out in the present. To this very day, there are a lot of different variations or types, each one with its own unique functions and features, although the basic purpose of cooking and storing food is still more or less intact. The variations also differ according to the region or by countries. An example would be the Japanese variants, which can be very different from their United States counterparts.
