Carpet Cleaning: How It Can Lessen Allergies

By Suzanne Herrman

While some people with allergies choose to simply remove all of the carpeting in their home, other people prefer the warmth and ambiance that carpeting provides. But there's no denying that carpeting can trap toxins and debris that aggravates asthma and allergies. If you love carpeting and area rugs, but suffer from allergies, here are a few easy ways to lessen your discomfort.

There are essential tasks to do to lessen the allergies, and these are dusting and vacuuming. People with allergies, COPD, or suffering from other respiratory ailments should avoid dust because this contains dust mites, and saliva of these is toxic to people with allergies. Prevent inhaling dust which can get into your lungs, and you can do this by wearing a dust mask, especially when you dust your house and you do this once a week. A feather duster used in dusting is not preferable because this will just scatter the dust, and using a damp rag for wiping is much better.

Vacuum the whole house including the wall edges, and do this at least once a week. For other house areas where traffic is high, vacuuming twice a week is much better. It is also better to ask people to remove their shoes when entering, and this will prevent the spread of dust. You can also buy a high quality vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, and debris and dirt trapped will be vacuumed, and these will no longer circulate around the house. With this cleaner type, wearing a mask while vacuuming will also be better.

Your carpet should be cleaned professionally at least once each year and twice per year if you have any type of health problem. Carpets can trap dust, dust mites, fungi, mold and other toxins. Deep cleaning removes all of this, and your local Baton Rouge carpet cleaning service can deep clean your rugs, carpets and upholstery and perhaps even provide mattress cleaning services and air duct cleaning service.

Following the previously mentioned tips will help, and your asthma and allergies can be better controlled. To prevent experiencing other problems, you can have your windows closed on windy days and high pollen days, and using your air conditioners will be much better. This will help and prevent dust, debris, and pollen from getting into your carpets.

Keep your health improved tremendously by keeping your house dust free. The extra work and tasks done will be worth it and you will feel better and breathing better, although the extra effort done is also harder.
