When cutting long lengths of timber, you should support it. This prevents it from flopping and swaying. This is common when you are using a machine driven saw. A supportive structure should be adjustable to enable easy shifting of timber. Metal is the best material to make such a structure as it is easier repair and replace parts like bolts and nuts.

To ensure that the timber is in a rigid position a supportive structure is necessary, and one that is made of metal is usually the best due to its ease in maintenance, in terms of repair and replacing worn out materials or lost parts like bolts.

Using a tape measure helps in making precise measurements. Ensure that the tape measure scale is accurate for correct readings. The prongs that grasp the margin of a piece of wood may be bent or may be having dents due to occasional falls. For accuracy ensure that they are replaced, or one can easily repair the part using a pliers.

Whenever you want to paint your wood surface, it is important to remove all the impurities from the surface of the wood. These impurities could greatly reduce the quality of the paint and consequently lowering the value of the end product. The impurities should be removed through scrubbing and in some cases washing the wood surface and allowing it to dry.

The best way to polish the wood is to use steel wool, rotten stone or pumice. However, each material used depends on the intensity of the shine desired. The method commonly used by many carpenters is French finishing. This involves applying many thin coats of shellac by using a scrubbing material. After scrubbing, the wood now has a soft finish that is glossy and appealing.

If you are doing this for the first time, take time to understand each item applied during finishing. Know which one to use first and how. Most carpenters do poor finishing because they dont know to use the tools or fail to understand the various wood materials. Where you are not sure of how to finish, consult a person who has experience.
