Tips On Furniture Refinishing Massachusetts

By Sandra Stewart

For one to have a well future in life, he or she is expected to save money for future use. Majority of people are used to setting aside part of their income as savings. However, what other people are not aware of is that savings can also be done via other means such as refinishing of old products instead of buying new ones. For furniture refinishing Massachusetts in Hudson, MA the following process can be used.

The first step involved is through removal of the old finish. The step is often tedious because of the work that one will have to do in order to complete the process. One can decide to use the sanding technique which involves using a sand paper to get rid of finish that has remained. Then removal of any paint or stains using a higher grit of sand paper. Another technique is through the use of chemical strippers where the chemical is applied to get rid any old finish.

At times furniture might have rough places. This will require the use of sand paper in order to make the place smooth and remove any finish that might have stuck on it. If one had to use a chemical to remove stains, then in this process, he or she will still have to use sand paper and grain to smoothen the whole surface of the furniture.

The third step is considered optional since it depends with the kind of grains that the furniture is made up of. It is the furniture that do consist of tight grains that will not need grain fillers while those that consist of open grains will need the grain fillers. In order to apply the fillers, one will use mostly a paint brush and a plastic material to get rid of any excess filler. The wood will be sanded lightly with the grain once the filler has dried out.

The wood will then enter the final step for staining which is application of sanding sealer. This will actually aid the wood to stain evenly across the whole surface area. The process will further involve application of a hefty coat which after soaking in the excess, it will be removed by a fresh rag.

It is however important to know that in the staining process one can use different range of products. Before choosing a product it is necessary for one to follow instructions provided by the manufacturer on each product. Some of the products that one can choose from include water based or oil based and the gel stain.

When finishing up the whole process, the person in charge will have to pay attention to the details. These details may include for how long the finish will last, the level of expertise provided and the products used generally in the whole process. In the end, the products used in the process will determine the output.

Having followed these steps, the furniture will have new life and have a presentable appearance. This will enhance durability and more so help one save money instead of always having to buy new furniture after a short period of time.
