Before you progress to ensure that your trap is well set, you need to have the appropriate tools that will make sure that your job will be done with minimum inconvenience. Aside from the trap, you will be in need a thin probe. A long screwdriver can be improvised. More so, you will want a trowel and a wooden arm of any garden tool used for ramming the floor.

The first job that needs to be accomplished is establishing the best place of setting it up. You will have to take a look if all the random hills on your garden can give you a long well-established pattern. This will ensure that your work is successful. Once you have identified the path, you need to go to areas much closer to the newest holes which can guarantee you catch.

Once you have settled into the right spot, you need to get the exact position of the tunnel. This can be done by pushing the probe gently into the ground. These tunnels are almost the same size as a golf ball so you need to be very careful else you may end up missing it. It will be indicated when you feel that the probe goes in smoothly then you experience some resistance.

Once you have gotten the right spot suitable for you proceed and dig all the soil above it up to the location of the tunnel base using the shovel. Avoid making it lager than the device used. Clear the bottom of the tunnel by doing away with all the loose soil around. Proceed to make the area firm by ramming it so that once the rodent is caught it cannot dig below.

While keeping it in place, ensure that the trigger is positioned exactly at the center of the runway. It should also be placed about more than half the size of the way from the bottom. This will require being very careful so that everything is gone as per the expectations.

The remaining thing is testing it if it works. If it fails the test, then you need to make some adjustments. Once you are assured of your job, proceed to cover the area around the site with grass and soil gently to avoid interfering with it. It needs to be well done so that no light rays can find the way inside.

The only indication that you have managed to make a catch is that the handles of this gadget will go apart. This should call you to go back and take out the already dead rodent and get prepared for another one. If there are no signs, take it to another place. It is much easier if you use many instead of one.
