Let A Philadelphia Electrician Do Your Electric Work For You

By Jeferson Tuyor

It can be very tempting to do your electrical work yourself. It at least appears to save money and wiring a socket or light switch is easy, right?

First of all, doing your own electrical work may not be legal. In Philadelphia, it is legal to do minor electrical repairs such as replacing lamps or circuit breakers, putting a new fixture in an existing connection, or replacing a switch, yourself. For anything more complicated, an electrical permit is needed - which means you have to hire a licensed Philadelphia electrician.

A licensed electrician knows how to do both simple and harder tasks with ease. They have experience and lots of quality learning and training, so no matter what your issue is, they can tackle it, and do the work safely. They know what the electrical codes are, so they can ensure that all of their work meets those codes. You will be thankful that no mistakes are made, since shoddy electrical work can result in fires or other dangerous situations.

You may not realize it, but the money you save doing your own electric work could cost you much more later on down the line. This is especially true if you try to sell your house later. During the required inspection, the inspector will fail you for not getting a licensed electrician, which can void any potential sale.

Another benefit is that an electrician will generally guarantee their work and if it fails, will come back and fix it.

It is entirely possible to save money while hiring a pro. Just look for experienced workers or companies who are licensed and have a reasonable hourly or flat rate. It will save you money and a lot of stress in the long run.
