Essential Facts About Florida Synthetic Grass

By Jennifer Kelly

The first step of producing synthetic turf is to mix white plastic pellets with green pellets. This mixture forms the backing of the grass. The green pellets are made of additives, coloring agents, and UV stabilizers. This mixture then has to be extruded through a perforated steel plate. Cooling of the extrusion is achieved by cooling in a bath of water. The entire production process occurs through a production line so that by the time the product appears on the other end, it is ready for packaging and shipment for consumption. This is worth knowing about Florida Synthetic Grass.

According to the Synthetic Turf Council, synthetic turf that is produced and used today is the third generation. There are many improvements that these products exhibit that were not in previous versions. This has been made possible through extensive research and investment. Safety and quality are two aspects that have been improved upon a lot over the years.

Polyethylene is the material used to manufacture the green blades which gives the grass its green appearance. There are other many products in common use which are made using polyethylene. Such products include plastic bottles and bags. One can have the blades made into any color they prefer. However, the only color that is in wide use is green because manufacturers try to achieve products that resemble natural grasses as much as possible.

There is a thatch layer present in fake grass to act as a support for blades as well as a backing for blade recovery. Material often used for the thatch layer is polypropylene, polyethylene, or nylon. With the backing, athletes are prevented from sustaining serious injuries when they fall during a game. This has resulted in the reduction of the number of injuries reported during to falls and other accidents on playgrounds.

Blades in these products are normally inserted into backings to form rows of neatly-organized turf. The insertion of blades into the backing is done using a tufting machine. A tufting machine is similar to a sewing machine only that it is bigger in size and comprises of many hundreds of needles. By inserting the blades into the backing, the product achieves an increased level of durability and resistance to damage.

The popularity of this product came after it was installed at the Houston Atrodome baseball field in 1966 despite it having existed several years earlier. The product installed in Houston was the first generation. Research would later lead to the production and distribution of second and third generation products amidst overwhelming media critique and scrutiny.

The legalization of the use of this product by FIFA occurred in 2010. Upon being legalized, the first instance of use happened in the same year at the FIFA World Cup Games in South Africa. This product has served as a major replacement of natural grass in various spaces. It has also extended to replace carpets at high-end events such as the Latin Grammy Awards and the Teen Choice Award which previously used red carpets.

This product is usually meant to last for several decades before it requires to be replaced. As a result, manufacturers usually offer very long warranty periods on them. Typically, manufacturers offer warranties of 15 years. During this period, any issues related to the durability and manufacturing issues among other will be addressed by the manufacturer.
