Useful Information Regarding Bender Boards

By Andrew Myers

The design of modern synthetic landscaping edging material makes them look like natural wood. The purpose of the edging material is to define borders in a compound. Good examples of edging materials are bender boards. Depending on where one lives, these products go by several different names. Recycled plastic is the main material used to make this product in the United States.

These products are made into coils so that one can buy any size they want. The fact that the material is synthetic means that it does not rot like natural wood does. Also, it does not splinter or get affected by weather. Many prefer these synthetic edging products due to these benefits. One can do the installation without the help of an expert.

The board does not require the kind of maintenance that wood requires. Wood needs repainting, re-staining and other forms of preventive maintenance. Once the board has been installed, it is capable of retaining its good looks and beauty for long. It can be installed in places with different kinds of weather conditions.

Before one sets out to start the installation process, it is advisable to have all the materials, equipment, and tools needed for the job. Enough edging materials should be bought with the required number of stakes. The number of stakes that buys should be able to be installed at intervals of 4 to 5 feet through the entire course of the border.

There are many tools that are required for this job. These include measuring tape, a spade, a hand saw, and knee pads. One will also need a long string that will be used to mark the borders of the landscape where the landscaping material will go through. In the event that the edging material is purchased when one is not ready to install it, heavy stones should be used to ensure that it does not unwind.

When installing, one should start by marking the path that the board will go through on the landscape. A string should help one with the demarcation of the boarder. Once marked, one should step back and observe the way the marking has been done. A spade should then be used to dig a V-shaped trench along the string. The depth of the trench should be such that one inch of the board will stick above the ground.

One can then install the board into the trench along the border. Stakes can help to maintain it in place during the installation. The hand saw should be used to do all kinds of cutting that one may need to do.

Once one has installed the board throughout the boarder, they can then fill back soil into the trench. The soil should be tapped using the spade to compact it a little. One can then set their plants in the bordered part of the landscaping. It is possible to subdivide the landscaping as many as necessary. Common parts that one can divide the compound into include landscaping, garden, lawn, and flowerbed.
