A Bride's Guide To Decorating With Wedding Luminary Bags

By Stephen Kennedy

If you are getting married you likely want your wedding to look as beautiful and special as possible. One way to do this is to use wedding luminary bags. Here are some ways that you can incorporate these items into your wedding or reception and how to find the ones that are right for your needs.

You may have seen luminaria used before without knowing what they are. These were originally used more in New Mexico and the Southwest United States but as people saw them more and more, they are being used in areas all around the world. Candles are placed inside bags and the glow from the candle can be seen on the outside. Some individuals choose to leave the bags plain while others decorate them.

Ceremonies are not the only place that these items can be used. They can also be used to decorate a reception venue as well. If you know that one area will be more dimly lit than another, this may be a better place for you to position your candles. This is because the light they send out may be lost if the lighting is very bright.

If you want to use them for your ceremony, you can always use them to decorate your aisle. Placing them on each side of the aisle can visually separate it from the seating around it. You should be careful though that you also prevent guests from stepping through them as they may knock them over and this can be a fire hazard.

Many couples also put a lot of thought into how to decorate the altar or other area where the vows are being exchanged. They could be used on the altar itself or at the base of any decorative structures. Jewish couples may want to use them at the base of their chuppah. If you are using an arch, these luminaria can also be placed at the base of the arch as well.

Receptions can also benefit from the use of these items as well. For example, you could use a grouping of them as an alternative to floral centerpieces. If you are using one portion of a venue for your ceremony and another portion for your reception, you may want to use lumninaries to form a path from one area to the other.

You may want to consider options other than a plain bag as your candle surround. These items can be printed with or decorated with images or initials. You could also consider cutting out portions of the bag so that a pattern is formed from the candle light. If you are planning a ceremony or reception that is dimly lit this may be a beautiful visual effect that your guests will appreciate.

You may want to look online in order to purchase these items. You may be able to use an online service to design the bags themselves and then assemble them once they arrive. Often, you are able to purchase these items in large numbers which can be helpful if you have to create a large number of centerpieces or if you have a large area to decorate.
